    *****

I had a wonderful full day of ebike touring with David Fenster’s bike tour company in the Fukuma area not far from Fukuoka. We checked out a historical Sake factory, temples, farmer’s market, beaches, monument to turtles, a sushi lunch and more. The tours are small with wonderful bikes on easy to ride paths and roads. I give it five stars out of five.

The E-Bike Tour is a fantastic way to experience the charm and culture of Fukuoka beyond the city center. Starting from a scenic seaside town, we set off on lightweight e-bikes that made the ride smooth and enjoyable.

Our first stop was at a 100+ year-old sake brewery, where the stunning historic architecture, old photographs, and friendly local host brought Japan’s brewing tradition to life. We even took photos with the host, and the local sake available for purchase was a perfect option to enjoy later in the day.

From there, we cycled through authentic Japanese countryside, taking in stunning ocean views and shinto shrines before stopping at a large farmers' market for refreshments. Popular with locals for its fresh, locally sourced produce, the market had so much to offer. We opted for a delicious green smoothie and I discovered my new favourite Japanese dessert - mochi pie!

The highlight of the tour was the sushi lunch, a well-earned stop after cycling. It was my first time experiencing sushi yatai, and enjoying the freshest sushi while watching the ocean waves from my seat was simply unforgettable.

The ride back took us through peaceful tree-lined lanes, with another stop for coffee and ice cream, before ending the tour at the famous Miyajidake Shrine. The timing was perfect, as we arrived just in time for the iconic sunset photo!

Our guide, David, was incredible, seamlessly tying the experience together. With years of local knowledge and cycling expertise, he shared stories and insights throughout the tour. His ability to translate and connect with the local community added an extra layer of warmth and accessibility.

Overall, it was an amazing way to explore the authentic side of Japan and discover the unique delights Fukuoka has to offer beyond it's city limits. Highly recommended!
